POSITION SUMMARY
The purpose of this position is to eliminate pests and weeds on all park properties in the City utilizing specialized equipment and best management practices. The City of Farmers Branch will conduct ongoing screenings of applications on a first come, first serve basis. As soon as we determine to have a qualified pool of applicants, this position may close quickly and without notice after a three business day minimum posting.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Diagnoses plant and turf problems, recommends appropriate treatment and schedules work. Eliminates pests using best management practices and specialized equipment on park properties. Organizes equipment and supplies for daily assignments, performs routine maintenance on equipment, accurately measures and applies chemicals on target pests, and completes written documentation of work performed. Works special events and other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature that may be obtained with six-months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency. Three years related experience required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability and willingness to work flexible hours and weekends and holidays as needed. Subject to “oncall/stand-by” duty and required to be in an on-call rotation.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Must possess a valid Driver’s License. Must obtain a Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License to successfully complete the six-month probationary period.
Must have Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicator License in Landscape Maintenance (3A), Vegetation Management (5), and Aquatic (6), prior to employment.
Texas Certified Nursery Professional (TCNP) from the Texas Nursery and Landscape (TNLA) Association preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Work requires the occasional direction of helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, or temporary employees.

Decisions regarding implementation of policies may be made. Contact may involve support of controversial positions or the negotiation of sensitive issues or important presentations. Contacts may involve stressful, negative interactions with the public requiring high levels of tact and the ability to respond to aggressive interpersonal interactions.

This position normally performs the job by following established standard operating procedures and/or policies. There is a choice of the appropriate procedure or policy to apply to duties. Performance is reviewed periodically.

Work requires advanced skills and knowledge in approaches and systems, which affect the design and implementation of major programs and/or processes organization-wide. Independent judgment and decision-making abilities are necessary to apply technical skills effectively. Intermediate ability to read papers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias. Intermediate ability to deal with system of real numbers; practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions and measurement. Basic ability to write simple sentences containing subject, verb, and object, and/or a series of numbers, names, and addresses.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work involves exposure to disagreeable elements, noise and smoke fumes; involves continuous outdoor work with frequent exposure to poor weather conditions. Physical demands include frequent lifting of heavy objects weighing up to 100 lbs. Continuous physical exertion, requiring heavy muscular effort with resulting fatigue of arms, legs, back or sensory facilities.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
The Chemicals Specialist I position has an hourly salary range of $19.05 – $28.57. This is a full time position and employees are eligible for medical, dental, vision and other benefits on the first day of employment.
